SISTERS, Ore. (KTVZ) – One person was killed and multiple people were injured in a head-on crash that closed U.S. Highway 20 east of Santiam Pass for several hours Tuesday, authorities said.

Oregon State Police confirmed a fatality resulted from the two-vehicle head-on crash.

ODOT posted a TripCheck traffic advisory shortly after 11 a.m. of the crash near milepost 83, about two miles east of the Santiam Pass summit. Motorists were advised to use an alternate route. The location is about eight miles east of Santiam Junction and 17 miles west of Sisters.

"This closure is likely to extend into Tuesday afternoon, and there are no local detours," ODOT said in an advisory. "Please use an alternate route or delay your trip if possible, and please watch out for emergency responders."

One lane in each direction reopened by about 1:45 p.m. and all lanes were open again by 2:30 p.m.

We will provide more details as they are released.
