Biden accepts mayor’s invitation to visit East Palestine, Ohio, a year after train derailment

Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden has accepted an invitation from the mayor of East Palestine, Ohio, to visit the community after it was devastated by a fiery train derailment nearly one year ago. Mayor Trent Conaway told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he doesn’t support Biden or approve of his handling of the disaster. But Conaway says he invited Biden because he thinks a presidential visit would be good for his community. Biden will visit sometime in February but the White House says it’s still working with local officials on timing. Some residents say Biden’s visit is a little too late. The derailment displaced thousands living near the Ohio-Pennsylvania border.
