NEW YORK (AP) — Former President Donald Trump looked on as his lawyer pressed three federal appeals judges to overturn a verdict finding him liable for sexual abuse and defamation. Attorney D. John Sauer told the panel Friday that the civil trial in a lawsuit brought by writer E. Jean Carroll was muddied by improper evidence. He noted that jurors were allowed to view the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape in which Trump boasted in 2005 about grabbing women’s genitals. Carroll’s lawyer says the tape is a confession. Carroll says Trump attacked her in a department store dressing room in 1996. He denies it. A jury awarded Carroll $5 million. The appeals judges haven’t yet ruled.
