Multnomah County urges everyone to wear masks indoors

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Multnomah County health officials in Portland, Oregon, are asking people to wear masks indoors until new COVID-19 counts and hospitalizations start to decline.

Health Officer Dr. Jennifer Vines said it is not a mandate but a request for everyone to put their masks back on for a few weeks as they go to school, work and other indoor events, The Oregonian/OregonLive reported. Officials strongly recommend people wear masks in schools.

County officials have not set a case or hospitalization threshold for when they would consider mandating masks, a spokesperson for the health department said.

Multnomah County has been averaging about 350 new cases a day, up from less than 100 in early April.

The current COVID-19 wave is expected to peak in about a month, according to an Oregon Health & Science University forecast.

Nearby Clackamas and Washington counties have not recommended universal indoor masking. Both are also the “medium” COVID-19 risk category and have seen the same or higher case rates over the last week as Multnomah County.

Multnomah County officials also suggested people at high risk of severe COVID-19 consider avoiding crowded indoor settings for the next few weeks.

  1. And it’s starting again now 🙈 how long before brown reinstated it statewide till November. But y’all know nobody at the bulletin or the z will say it’ll be a distraction marker for the midterms.

Sometimes the truth is better than fiction, but usually fiction is better than the truth.

  2. Taking a woman’s right to do what she wants with her body is ok but I will not stand for temporary mandates that save human lives, reduces an individuals economic impact from visiting a hospital, and allows for hospitals to remain within a threshold where they can take care of citizens within our community that need care. How foolish the Trumpets have become.

    1. Are you fully vaxxed? They are now pushing the 5th booster? Man, so maybe my prediction a year ago was right, clot shots 4 times a year.

    2. BTW last summer when covid numbers were down to single digits at st Charles, they cancelled all elective surgeries because of staffing not covid. Go complain to Joe Sluka the sucka.

      1. People have described my looks as offensive but what can I say I’d make a good model for the before photos in those weight loss commercials.
