Need that rings a bell: Salvation Army of Bend’s famous red kettles are deep in the red; income off 75% this year
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) — The Salvation Army of Bend Corps issued a plea for help Wednesday, saying it is anticipated to see a reduction in red kettle income up to 75 percent, with less than one week to go for the fundraising campaign.
The Salvation Army credits the decrease in donations to the Thanksgiving holiday date this year, which reduced the campaign by five days, as well as challenges in recruiting enough volunteers to ring bells at the red kettle.
This year, the local Salvation Army seeks to raise $100,000 to meet the growing demand for essential services in the Bend and Redmond communities.
Every year, The Salvation Army of Bend provides a variety of services to local residents. The holiday season can be especially difficult for many, and donations are crucial to ensuring that no one is left behind during this time of year.
“The holiday season brings unique challenges for many in our community, but it also brings out the generosity of those who can help,” said Major Jonathan Harvey, Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army Cascade Division. “Every donation, no matter the size, is a step toward lifting someone out of hardship. Your support helps bring hope and stability to those who need it most — not just during Christmas but also throughout the entire year.”
