You can donate blood for American Red Cross at Battle of the Badges

(Update: adding video)

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- First responders are urging you to roll up your sleeves and donate blood at Battle of the Badges next Monday.

This quarterly competition pits Bend Fire, Bend Police, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, and DCSO Search and Rescue against each other to see who can collect the most blood donations.

It’s a friendly rivalry, with one shared goal: saving lives.

Cat Radovich, firefighter and paramedic with Bend Fire and Rescue, said Friday, "We've been sending a lot of blood product to LA. And with LA fires, over 400 blood drives have been canceled. And that equates to roughly 10,000 pints of blood product. So that's a lot of lives that could be saved with generous donations from the public."

At the last drive, held in the fall, Bend Fire claimed victory.

The upcoming event will take place on Monday at the Municipal Building, located across the street from the Pilot Butte Fire Station. It runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

You can sign up by visiting RedCrossBlood.org and entering the code CITYOFBEND as one word.
