Bend receives nearly $1M in federal funding for water system improvements

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Congresswoman Janelle Bynum (OR-05) announced the delivery of $992,250 in federal funding to the City of Bend for its Neighborhood Drinking Water Protection Program. The funds are designated to replace fragile galvanized pipes, improve water system redundancy and ensure nearby hydrants can meet fire flow requirements.

The federal funding aims to protect drinking water quality for the community.

The announcement was made today in Oregon City, OR, where Rep. Bynum joined local leaders to celebrate the allocation. This investment is part of a broader effort by Rep. Bynum to secure federal dollars for her constituents.

Rep. Bynum, who represents Oregon's Fifth Congressional District, emphasized the importance of access to clean water. She stated that it is essential for the safety and health of Oregonians, enabling communities to grow and build more housing, which leads to a stronger economy with lower costs.

“Access to clean drinking water is not only key to keeping Oregonians safe and healthy, but it enables our communities to grow, build more housing and in turn, have a stronger economy with lower costs,” Bynum said. “I am proud to secure this federal funding and deliver results back home. I promise to keep up the fight and bring home every dollar available.”

For Oregon's Fifth Congressional District, Rep. Bynum has secured a total of $14,725,250 through Community Project Funding.

Melanie Kebler, Mayor of the City of Bend, expressed her gratitude for the federal investment. She highlighted the immediate and long-term benefits for the city.

“This is a huge win for Bend and an investment in the health and safety of our community members now and into the future,” Kebler said. “Federal funding like this makes a real difference. It will allow us to replace aging pipes, improve our water system, safeguard our drinking water and enhance fire protection. Thank you to Rep. Bynum for securing the funding and investing in our community.”
