BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) — Central Oregon law enforcement agencies are increasing patrols on local roadways. This initiative is part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's "Click It or Ticket" enforcement campaign. The campaign, which runs from May 11 through May 31 and includes Memorial Day Weekend, focuses on seat belt and child safety seat violations to reduce serious injury crashes.

The "Click It or Ticket" campaign is a nationwide seat belt enforcement blitz. Locally, the Oregon State Police – Bend Command is serving as the lead Multi-Agency Traffic Team agency for this year's effort. Although no specific team activation dates are scheduled, partner agencies will deploy additional officers, deputies and troopers on patrol to increase visibility and encourage proper seat belt use.

In addition to seat belt enforcement, Multi-Agency Traffic Team agencies will continue to monitor all "SOLID" related violations. These violations are leading contributors to major injury and fatal crashes across Central Oregon. "SOLID" is an acronym for Speed, Occupant Protection, Lane Departure, Impairment and Distraction. Central Oregon's Multi-Agency Traffic Team urges all drivers and passengers to buckle up for every trip, every time. The team also advises individuals to remain attentive and responsible while behind the wheel.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's “Click It or Ticket” enforcement campaign is scheduled to run through May 31. Drivers and passengers are encouraged to maintain safe driving practices.
