Health Authority reduces Deschutes County case count by 1, to 89

PORTLAND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Oregon Health Authority reported four more COVID-19 deaths on Wednesday, raising the total to 134.

OHA also said there were 55 new confirmed cases of the virus and four presumptive cases, bringing the statewide total to 3,416 cases, along with 80,571 negative test results. The full OHA daily report is available here.

The health authority says two women, ages 90 and 100, and a 91-year-old man in Polk County, and a 91-year-old Washington County woman most recently died of the virus.

The new OHA tally reduced Deschutes County's COVID-19 cases by one, to 89. The county reports one apparent case reported Tuesday turned out not to be one, and 71 of its cases have recovered. The total of negative test results in Deschutes County has reached 3,022.

Crook County still has one COVID-19 case and 328 negative results, while Jefferson County remains at 24 cases, with 507 negative results.

Meanwhile, Oregon has reported its first confirmed case of a rare inflammatory disease in children that has been linked to COVID-19.

The Oregon Health Authority announced the case of pediatric multi-system inflammatory syndrome Wednesday.

The case in Oregon involves a girl who had confirmed COVID-19. She is being treated at Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel in Portland. Officials said the syndrome is similar to Kawasaki disease, which causes fever, rash, swelling of hands and feet and inflammation of the mouth, lips and throat, among other symptoms.

The syndrome appears to be an uncommon but serious complication of COVID-19 in children, said Paul Cieslak, M.D., medical director for infectious diseases and immunizations at the Health Authority Public Health Division. The syndrome is rare and most children infected with the virus develop only mild illness.
