Redmond pickup truck thieves try but fail to yank, steal Prineville bank’s drive-thru ATM, then run, elude police

PRINEVILLE, Ore. (KTVZ) – Prineville police are seeking the public’s help, including home surveillance video, to find two men who used a pickup truck just stolen in Redmond and a tow rope to try – unsuccessfully – to yank and steal a drive-thru ATM from a Prineville bank, then ran away early Monday morning.

Officers were dispatched around 4 a.m. to report of suspicious circumstances at the Washington Federal Bank on Northeast Third Street, Detective Sergeant Jon Adkins said.

They arrived to find the abandoned pickup, attached with a tow rope to a damaged ATM in the bank’s drive-thru, he said.

Officers, assisted by drones and a Redmond police K-9 team, searched for suspects but were unsuccessful, the sergeant said.

Surveillance video showed two males tried to forcefully remove the ATM and fled on foot when they could not, Adkins said. Police soon learned the pickup had been stolen about an hour earlier in Redmond.
