Three blazes keep Crook County fire crews busy
PRINEVILLE, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Crook County firefighters were kept busy on Tuesday by three fires in the span of a few hours.
The first call, shortly before noon, was of hay on fire in a pole barn on Highway 26 East, Crook County Fire & Rescue Division Chief Russ Deboodt said.
Welding apparently started dry grass on fire, which spread to the hay in the adjacent barn. There were no injuries and only hay was lost, he said.
Shortly after noon, firefighters were dispatched to an escaped field burn near East Highway 126 in Powell Butte, Deboodt said.
The burn spread to bushes and trees in the front yard of a home. The fire also damaged utility lines, but again there were no injuries.
The third fire was reported around 1:45 p.m. on Southeast Pecos Road, south of Prineville and east of the Crooked River.
Crews arrived to find a travel trailer fully ablaze next to a home. Firefighters stopped the fire, which damaged the exterior of the unoccupied house, Deboodt said.
The cause of that fire was undetermined. The American Red Cross was called to provide disaster aid to the residents.
