BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – A thin coat of snow fell over much of the Bend area and higher elevations late Sunday to begin what NewsChannel 21 Chief Meteorologist John Carroll calls an “aggressive … wet and wintry week” of rain, snow and high winds.

Bend got about a half-inch of snow after dark, coating roads, after a mild start to the day ahead of a drop in temperatures that brought the wintry mix.

The National Weather Service has a winter storm warning in place through Monday at 10 p.m. for the east slopes of the Cascades, with 6-12 inches expected along the crest and 1-3 inches at lower levels, from La Pine and Sunriver to sisters and Camp Sherman.

Mt. Bachelor wrapped up its early opening weekend for pass-holders with four new inches of dense, wet snow by Sunday morning and close to a foot of lighter, drier snow expected by Monday as temperatures drop into the 20s. The resort reopens next Friday.

A high wind watch is also in place from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning for Central Oregon and other areas to the north and east, with forecasters expecting south to southeast winds of 30-35 and gusts up to 60 mph.

After a windy Tuesday with more snow, milder temperatures are expected at midweek, though the persistent pattern of precipitation has Carroll warning of the potential of minor flooding.
