Redmond School District, RPA to provide no-cost breakfast and lunch to all students, starting this fall

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Redmond School District said Thursday it will be implementing the Community Eligibility Provision district-wide, starting in the 2024-2025 school year. This provides no-cost meals to all students, including those attending the Redmond Proficiency Academy.

This program will be available for the following three school years, contingent on financial viability.  This program aims to ease the financial burden on families and streamline operations within the Nutrition Department.

All RSD and RPA students will have access to one breakfast and one lunch per day at no cost. Each meal includes one milk, and students are welcome to unlimited fresh fruits and vegetables. Additional items such as adult meals, extra entrees, individual milks, and other ala carte items will still incur charges, so families may wish to maintain funds in their students’ accounts for these purchases.

RSD Nutrition Services will no longer accept or process school meal benefit applications. Except for direct certifications through programs like SNAP, Medicaid, McKinney-Vento, and Migrant Education.

"This is great news for our students, our community, and our school buildings," said Lance McMurphy, Nutrition Services Director.

"While all families may not choose to participate in our school meal programs, all our students will now have the same access to nutritious food at school, eliminating financial and social barriers to participation. For many families, food insecurity is a real issue, and I believe we can all agree that well-nourished students perform better academically and behaviorally," said McMurphy.
