The Environmental Center invites families to get creative for Bend’s Earth Day Parade costumes using upcycled materials

(Update: Adding video, comments from the facilitator)

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Environmental Center wanted to help people prepare for the Earth Day Fair and Parade, with Earth Day coming up. So on Saturday, they held a Reclaimed Trash and Treasure Transformation Workshop.

Families came in ready to get a head-start on crafting and creating their costumes for the parade. There were old clothes, empty containers, boxes and cards to help everyone make a special upcycled masterpiece.

Facilitator Clara Liberov said, "All of this may make an appearance at the Earth Day Festival, kind of wear worn as costumes or whatever people imagine. There have been some dioramas that are made and stuff like that, so if someone wants to carry that around or incorporate it into their wing -- it can be done. So we're kind of working together to realize our trash vision."

People were certainly having their 'trash vision' come to life at the workshop. To celebrate Earth Day, which is on April 22, the Earth Day Fair and Parade will take place on April 20.
