Wind-driven CRR structure fire destroys a shop and entraps two cats
(Update: adding video)
CROOKED RIVER RANCH, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Crooked River Ranch Fire & Rescue along with units from Redmond Fire & Rescue and Cloverdale Fire District were dispatched to a reported structure fire in a large building.
Firefighters arrived on scene within four minutes to find a well involved, large, single-story shop with fire coming from an attached carport.
Inside the carport a full-sized pickup truck and large RV trailer were fully involved with fire quickly spreading to the nearby structure.
15 mph wind gusts fanned flames throughout the incident as firefighters attempted to hold the fire to the attached carport. Homeowners had reported that everyone had safely evacuated except for two cats that were presumed trapped in the living quarters inside the shop.
Firefighters were able to enter the structure in search of the cats when the roof suddenly collapsed prompting emergency tones and an immediate evacuation of all fire personnel from within the building.
Thankfully no firefighters were injured in the collapse and crews were able to continue fighting fire from outside of the structure.
While fighting fire crews found and rescued one of the cats that managed to survive the collapse. The cat was treated using a pet oxygen mask and safely reunited with its owner. The other cat was later discovered to have safely escaped the blaze after being found scared but safe by the homeowner.
While the building and contents were a total loss, a financial estimate of the losses is still being determined. No foul play is suspected, and the cause of this fire is under investigation.
