Pump Patrol: Oregon gas prices ease slightly, still highest ever for this time of year

OREGON (KTVZ) -- Gasoline prices dropped in 32 states this week, including Oregon, driven in part by recent declines in crude oil prices. The national average for regular gasoline fell two cents to $4.46 per gallon, while Oregon's average dropped four cents to $5.06 per gallon. In Bend, the average dropped to $4.96 from $5.02 last week.

Despite the weekly decline, gas prices across the nation and in Oregon remain at their highest levels ever recorded for this time of year due to ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The drop in crude oil prices provided minor weekly relief at the pump, but overall fuel costs for September remain elevated compared to historical benchmarks. Both national and state price averages have reached record highs for the month.

Nationally, regular gasoline has averaged $4.33 per gallon so far this month. That figure tops the previous September record high of $3.83 per gallon set in 2023.

In Oregon, the month-to-date average stands at $5.06 per gallon. The state's previous high for the month of September was $4.80 per gallon, recorded in 2022.
