Central Oregon lawmakers share their goals as Oregon’s 83rd legislative session gets underway

SALEM, Ore. (KTVZ)-- Tuesday marked the first day of Oregon's 2025 legislative session, and Central Oregon lawmakers say they are ready to get to work for their constituents.
In her State of the State address last week, Governor Tina Kotek pointed to key points for focus this year including wildfires, transportation, and housing.
Transportation and infrastructure are at the forefront of early conversations, with the governor proposing more funding to support Oregon's aging roads amid ODOT's serious budget crunch. Lawmakers will have to cross the aisle this year to determine where to pull funding from, with Democrats already suggesting tax increases.
The results of last fall's election gave Democrats a supermajority in both the House and Senate.
Tuesday also marked Senator Anthony Broadman's first day on the job after defeating Michael Summers in the race to succeed Tim Knopp in Senate District 27.
Isabella Warren was at the Capitol to hear from Central Oregon legislators about their plans for this session. You can watch her report here.
