Portland police arrest 26 during protests
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Police in Portland arrested 26 people as protesters gathered outside a police precinct and blocked streets late Saturday night.
Oregon’s largest city has seen frequent, often unruly demonstrations for more than four months after George Floyd was killed by police in Minneapolis.
KOIN reports that protesters were warned they would be subject to arrest and crowd control munitions, including tear gas, if they were to enter the closed North Precinct property.
Authorities said most in the crowd of about 75 were dressed in black and many wore “armor, helmets, masks, and/or carried shields and umbrellas.”
Police said they cleared the roads and then made targeted arrests for interfering with a police officer and disorderly conduct.
