PORTLAND, Ore. (KGW) — Search teams have located a climber who went missing after summiting Mount Hood on Thursday, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office. He was found safe and was able to hike out on his own.
Around 4 p.m. on Thursday, CCSO was notified the 26-year-old climber, Brendan Davis of Spokane, Wash., was lost on the mountain. He and his friend became separated on their descent when weather conditions were "very foggy," CCSO said.
Multiple search and rescue teams worked late into the night trying to locate Davis, following leads based on cell phone signals. Additional search and rescue teams joined Friday morning, along with air support from the Hood River Sheriff's Office and Air National Guard with coordination from Oregon Emergency Management.
In an update late Friday afternoon, the sheriff's office said that search and rescue teams had found the climber; they made voice contact near the Paradise Park Trailhead at 1:45 p.m., then rescuers were able to find im an hour later.
He was still able to hike, and crews were staying with him as he hiked back down the mountain. Davis has made it back to the trailhead, where he was reunited with family members around 5 p.m.
