Deschutes County Fair & Rodeo announces its 2024 Rodeo Queen and Grand Marshal

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Monday evening, the Deschutes County Fair Association held their annual meeting to officially announce the crowning of the 2024 Rodeo Queen and the introduction of the 2024 Grand Marshal.

Rodeo queens and grand marshals are a traditional part of the Deschutes County Fair & Rodeo.

The Rodeo Queen, who typically serves as an ambassador for the fair and rodeo, will participate in events, promoting the sport of rodeo.

The Grand Marshal is an honorary position, given to an distinguished individual who leads parades and ceremonial aspects of fair events including the rodeo.

This year’s titles have been bestowed upon Kethry Nolan, our Deschutes County Fair Rodeo Queen, and Elton Gregory, our Deschutes County Fair and Rodeo Grand Marshal.

Kethry Nolan said: “Everything about the rodeo culture is amazing. But to narrow it down, my personal favorite is steer wrestling. This event, where the horse and rider has to work in complete harmony. It requires steer wrestling and exceptional skill, strength, agility and balance. The ability to jump off a galloping horse onto a moving steer and then use precise technique to bring to the ground displays remarkable athleticism.”

Elton Gregory said: “The Deschutes County Fair Association introduced their members earlier. Each of them should have stood up and taken a bow, because they work so long and so hard. But the most important thing that I found with this group, which is a little different, was their passion for doing what they're doing.”

You’ll be able to see Kethry and Elton in action as they’ll be representing the 104th edition of the Bi-Mart Deschutes County Fair & Rodeo – returning July 31st through August 4th. This year’s fair will feature championship rodeo, top name concerts, animals, carnival rides, cotton candy and corn dogs, along with shopping, exhibits and food.
