Redmond Police turned to social media in hopes of returning diaper bag left at park to its rightful owner

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) – Not every police action involves big-time chases, arrests and wrongdoers. Sometimes, it’s just getting a lost item back to its owner, like a diaper bag found Tuesday at Hayden Park in southwest Redmond. But it turned out to be a crime, after all -- stolen from the owner's car..

Titled “IT’S A REAL STINKER!” the Redmond Police Facebook post said someone found the bag Tuesday and turned it in to police.

“Many of our staff here at the PD are parents,” it said, “and we know just how valuable the bag and its contents can be, especially the blankets!”

As for that title, officers added: ‘We removed a ‘loaded diaper,’ for the sake of our evidence staff.”

The owner of the diaper bag was asked to call police “and we can make arrangements to get it back to you!”

And sure enough, Sgt. Eric Beckwith said offiers heard Wednesday from the owner of the bag, a mom who said it was among the items stolen from her parked car.

The thief also took a heavy winter coat and an emergency $5 bill the woman keeps in the center console, Beckwith said.

The car wasn't parked at the park, where the bag was left, but it had been left unlocked, the sergeant said. She plans to pick up her bag Thursday.
