Redmond sanitation company worker injured when train collides with truck at crossing

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) – A Redmond sanitation company worker was injured and taken to the hospital Friday afternoon after his truck was struck by a freight train at a crossing south of Redmond, officials and others said.

The collision involving a BNSF Railway freight and a pickup with flatbed trailer from Superior Sanitation occurred around 12:45 p.m. at a crossing on a gravel road leading east from Highway 97 to the Redmond Rod and Gun Club.

A bystander told NewsChannel 21 the truck was heading east when it was hit by the southbound train, which spun it around, causing the truck to topple and spill two portable toilets and a pump.

Oregon State Police confirmed the crash but had few initial details to share.

A company representative said the driver had come from Bend and was headed to the rod and gun club to service their rental toilet.
