Redmond Airport ready to kick off busy holiday season; travelers urged to allow extra time, show up 2 hours early
REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Redmond Airport said Monday it anticipates another busy holiday travel season from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Eve. With increased passenger volume, travelers should expect busier-than-usual terminal activity and are advised to allow extra time for parking, checking in and clearing security.
“We strongly recommend passengers arrive at least two hours before their flight to allow time for checking luggage and clearing security, especially for early morning flights between 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.,” stated Airport Director Zachary Bass.
- Plan Ahead for Security Screening: The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requires travelers to place all electronics larger than a cell phone in separate bins for screening. Liquids must comply with TSA’s 3-1-1 rule, and any gifts should remain unwrapped. Note that while Oregon law allows marijuana possession, federal regulations prohibit it on flights. For more details on allowed and prohibited items, visit www.tsa.gov.
- Parking and Curbside Regulations:
- Parking: RDM offers free parking for the first 30 minutes, then charges $1.00 for the next 30 minutes, and $2.00 for each additional hour, with a maximum daily cost of $24.00. Cash, credit, and debit cards are accepted. To "know before you go," travelers are encouraged to check RDM’s website, www.flyrdm.com, where parking updates will be refreshed every 30 minutes and displayed on the message scroll at the top of the page.
- Additional Parking Options: A new credit card-only parking lot is available on the southwest side of the Airport near the main entrance (first lot entrance on the right).
- Cell Phone Waiting Area: For those picking up passengers, a free cell phone waiting area is located across from the Airport on Salmon Avenue.
- Curbside: Due to federal regulations, the terminal curb is for active loading and unloading only—no parking or waiting is permitted. Parking citations are $50.
- Prepare for Winter Weather: Travelers should be prepared for potential winter weather that may create slippery or hazardous conditions. Wear proper footwear, allow extra time for travel, and plan for safe walking and driving.
Amenities and Services: The airport terminal is open 24/7, with a variety of boarding lounge amenities, including a children’s play area, Nursing Room, a free book exchange, a coffee/gift shop, a family-friendly restaurant (post security), and a full-service bar open daily from 5:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. For more information on RDM’s services, TSA guidance, and flight information, visit www.flyrdm.com.
