Bend man arrested at Redmond shelter in stabbing of customer at 7-Eleven

(Update: Suspect arrested, added video)

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) – A 20-year-old Bend man was arrested at a Redmond homeless shelter Wednesday afternoon, about 90 minutes after a customer was stabbed at a nearby 7-Eleven, police said.

Redmond Police, assisted by Bend Police, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies and Oregon State Police, arrested the suspect at the Shepherd’s House Ministries’ Redmond Center, Lieutenant April Huey said. The man was taken into custody without incident.

The man who was reported stabbed around 2:15 p.m. was a customer who received minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Redmond Fire & Rescue medics, Huey said.

Huey said the suspect would be booked into the county jail in Bend on charges of second-degree attempted assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

She told KTVZ News what type of sharp weapon used was still under investigation.

KTVZ News policy is not to name arrested individuals until and unless formal charges are filed.

Police had released two store security photos of the suspect as they sought the public's help in finding him.

Officers were dispatched around 2:15 p.m. on a report of a stabbing at the convenience store in the 1200 block of SW Highland Avenue.

"RPD is asking if anyone sees the suspect to not approach and call 9-1-1," Huey said. "There is a heavy law enforcement presence in the area and will be for an extended period of time." She said the suspect was unknown to the victim.
