Redmond students host innovative wildfire education project showcase

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Sixth and seventh grade science students at Redmond Proficiency Academy Middle School will host a Wildfire Science Student Showcase on May 8. The invitation-only event, running from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., will feature Community Education Projects designed to teach local youth about wildfire science.

The showcase is the culmination of a comprehensive unit on wildfire science for the students. Through their projects, students will demonstrate the depth of their learning with creative plans such as skits, puppet shows, songs, stories, summer camp programs and social media campaigns. Community members are invited to experience this work, offer feedback and help bring these ideas to life beyond the classroom.

Guests can arrive at the middle school starting at 12:15 p.m. The event will begin with an opening presentation that summarizes the students' learned material. Attendees can then expect to watch two to three student presentations in small groups. After the presentations, guests can enjoy walking through a student project gallery to see all of their work. This event requires an RSVP to attend. Light snacks and refreshments will be available for all guests.
