Kids in Bend celebrate the last day of school with summer kickoff party at Compass Park

(Update: Adding video, comments from kids)

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Hundreds of young Central Oregon students kick-started the beginning of their summer with a party on Tuesday. The group Life in Bend hosted its second annual School's Out for Summer Party, held at Compass Park.

The kids were running around the park, having a blast with their friends, all happy that it was the last day of school. There were games like tug of war and egg races to take part in, as well as Bend Pizza Kitchen pizzas to munch on and frozen treats to savor.

These young students are eager for their summer plans.

Camryn Mullen said, "I'm looking forward to the PopSicles." Her friend, Wren Russell, said she was looking forward to the glitter tattoos.

Tatum Burdick said, "I'm looking forward to our trip to Hawaii, and our grammy and grandpa's house in Washington." Burdick's friend, Sierra Vasquez said," I might be going to Tahoe."

The event was also a fundraiser for the KIDS Center in Bend, which helps children and their families heal from child abuse.

Students with Bend La Pine Schools will be back in the classrooms September 6.
