Fire hit manufactured home in Romaine Village Tuesday night

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – Investigators are looking for the cause of a fire Tuesday night that destroyed a manufactured home on Chuckanut Drive in the Romaine Village neighborhood of southwest Bend.

Bend Fire & Rescue crews responded shortly before 10 p.m. to the reported fire on Chuckanut Drive, off Brookswood Boulevard, Deputy Fire Marshal Dan Derlacki said Wednesday.

Firefighters were able to quickly stop the fire and keep it from spreading to nearby structures, Derlacki said, adding that no one was home at the time of the fire and no pets were present.

Damage is estimated at $75,000, and Derlacki said “the house and contents are considered a complete loss.”

A neighbor spotted smoke and called Deschutes County 911, Derlacki said.

“Luckily, it was still early enough in the evening they were still awake and could notice the smoke,” the fire marshal said in a news release. “No smoke alarms were heard during the fire, and it’s unclear if any were present.”

“It’s a good reminder that smoke alarms not only alert the occupants to a fire, but potentially neighbors or passers-by to something wrong at your home.”
