Bend’s BrownBag Popcorn Co. holds ‘Chance-to-Win Weekend Fundraiser’ to raise money for S. Calif. fire victims

(Update: Adding video, comments from staff, Bend resident)

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A Bend business is raising funds to provide aid to Southern California fire victims.

BrownBag Popcorn Company, in downtown Bend, is lending a helping hand to those in Southern California, amidst the devastating wildfires that forced many to flee.

A variety of Bend businesses, like Lark Mountain Modern, Thump Coffee, and Bar RBC, donated gift cards for the "Chance-to-Win Weekend Fundraiser."

It's helping to provide meals and water to first responders and evacuees in Southern California.

"You just, you know, come in and buy a ticket one for $5 or five for 20, and you just put it in whatever slot you'd like," Skyler Wheeler, BBPCo's Store Manager said Sunday.

"They all donated different amounts, anywhere from $20 to 200," she said. "So far, we've raised over $2,000."

For Bend resident Phil Martin, he placed his ticket in Natural Kinships Furniture's slot.

Martin said, "My wife and I moved here last year to Bend. We love it so far. I think there's something exciting about winning, an opportunity to get some handcrafted furniture."

100% of your purchased "Chance-to-Win" tickets will be donated to World Central Kitchen. World Central Kitchen provides meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises.

For Phil, the purpose behind a "Chance-to-Win" hit close to home.

He said, "I actually just moved from Southern California, so definitely resonates my mom's side of the family is all in Orange County, and so I know lots of friends and family that are affected by that."

BrownBag Popcorn Company says, if you participated in the fundraiser this weekend and entered their 'Chance to-Win Weekend Fundraiser,' they could be giving you a congratulatory call on Monday.
