MADRAS, Ore. (KTVZ) BestCare Treatment Services broke ground today in Madras on a new Latino residential treatment facility for substance abuse. This project aims to provide live-in treatment with a crucial cultural component.

The facility is expected to be a historic new project for the community.

The new 8,000-square-foot campus will provide live-in treatment for 16 males.

It is being built next to an existing BestCare project that offers housing for unhoused individuals or those struggling with mental illness.

Speakers at today's ceremony emphasized that the program's cultural component is key to its success.

Salvador Amezola, program director for Programa de Recuperación de Madras, highlighted the importance of cultural connection in recovery. "Many people, they go into addiction. They lose their sense of identity, their sense of culture, their sense of belonging. So when you have a program that is culturally and linguistic, you have a place where we reconnect people to their culture roots and that brings them back to who they really are."

BestCare is currently operating a smaller program in Madras. Each patient in the program undergoes a 60-day treatment duration.

The total estimated cost for the project is between $6.5 million and $8 million. Public funding totaling $3.4 million has already been secured for the facility.

The new facility should be finished by the middle of next year.
