OSP seeks public’s help after mule deer buck illegally shot, left to waste near Nyssa
MALHEUR COUNTY, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Oregon State Police are asking for the public’s help identifying whoever illegally shot and wasted a mule deer buck near Nyssa.
OSP Fish and Wildlife Division troopers responded Thursday, September 10, to a report of a dead mule deer buck near the Owyhee Avenue and Twilight Drive area.
Troopers found the buck on private property in a hay field approximately 100 yards from Twilight Drive. Investigators say the deer appeared to have been shot and left to waste, with only its head removed.
Anyone with information about the unlawful killing is asked to contact the Turn In Poachers (TIP) hotline at 1-800-452-7888 or *OSP (*677) from a mobile phone.
Callers should reference case number SP26-297246.
The TIP program is a partnership between the Oregon State Police, Oregon Hunters Association, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Oregon Wildlife Coalition, Oregon Outfitters and Guides Association and Oregon State Marine Board.
The program offers preference points for information that leads to an arrest or citation involving the unlawful take, possession or waste of big game.
For deer, the program offers four preference points.
Cash rewards are also available for information leading to arrests or citations for certain wildlife and habitat violations. The Oregon Hunters Association offers a $1,000 reward for information involving the unlawful take, possession or waste of deer, elk or antelope.
Other violations eligible for rewards include habitat destruction, spotlighting, snagging, illegally obtaining hunting or angling licenses or tags, and unlawful lending or borrowing of big game tags.
People can report wildlife or habitat violations by calling the TIP hotline at 1-800-452-7888, dialing *OSP (*677), or emailing TIP@osp.oregon.gov. The email is monitored Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
