Climbing rangers rescue goose stranded on Mount Shasta

SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. (KOBI/KTVZ) – A goose is safe after attempting to summit Mt. Shasta last month.

While on a routine patrol, climbing rangers with the Mount Shasta Avalanche Center spotted the goose at the 10,000-foot elevation point where Old Ski Bowl is located.

That’s according to a Facebook post by the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.

The post also said, “The climber (flyer?) had on only one layer of down and was neither prepared for the temperature nor overnight camping.”

The rangers, however, were able to successfully transport the goose down from the mountain and release it into a local pond.

Typically, Mount Shasta rangers patrol the mountain to assess avalanche hazards, collect snow depth data, and maintain facilities at Bunny Flat trailhead, although they are trained and ready to perform search and rescue duties.

More information on the work rangers do can be found on the Mount Shasta Avalanche Center’s website.
