Mt. Bachelor hosts U.S. Cross Country Ski Team, Biathlon Team and Nordic Paralympic Team for spring training

Mt. Bachelor

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – Mt. Bachelor, home to the longest Nordic ski season in the continental U.S., is thrilled to host training and camps for world-renowned athletes from the Stifel U.S. Cross Country Ski Team, U.S. Biathlon Team, and U.S. Nordic Paralympic Team.

Since 2010, Nordic racers have made a tradition of coming to Mt. Bachelor every May to hone their skills on 56km of groomed trails. Some camps even date back to the 1980’s, rooting generations of athletes in Mt. Bachelor’s vibrant and tight-knit Nordic community.

This month, 23 athletes and eight coaches are training at the Mt. Bachelor Nordic Center. Top athletes in attendance include:

  • Jessie Diggins, the most accomplished cross-country skier from the U.S. in the sport's history having won two World Cup overall titles, three Olympic medals, six World Championship medals, and numerous other event championships.
  • Gus Schumacher, the first American to win a gold medal in an individual race at the Junior World Ski Championships and the winner of the Men's 10 km freestyle race at the 2024 Stifel Loppet Cup.
  • Rosie Brennan, the second American cross-country skier to win back-to-back World Cup races, representing the United States at several World Championships and Winter Olympic Games.
  • JC Schumacher and Ben Ogden, each earning their first World Cup podiums this year.

"Serving as the spring training destination for these incredible teams and athletes is a huge honor,” said John Merriman, President and General Manager of Mt. Bachelor. "Not only do we get to share our beautiful terrain and welcome them to our resort, but we also have the opportunity to get to know these athletes through casual meet & greets in our Nordic Lodge. It’s really inspiring for our local Nordic community and staff.”

According to Leann Bentley, Press Officer for the Stifel U.S. Cross Country Ski Team, the Bend camp is the first camp of the year that brings the entire team together post-season.

“It’s an opportunity for the National team and the clubs around the country to gather with the vast Nordic community and train all together, whether it be in time trials, technique sessions, or intervals,” said Bentley.

Training and camps are currently underway and will continue through May 16.
