The Big Playback 1/31 Pt. 2: Caldera edges Summit in thriller, stays No. 1; Summit girls beat Caldera, now 2-1 in league

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- In a battle of undefeated league teams, top-ranked Caldera held off No. 8 Summit in a 71-69 nail-biter on the road. With a packed gym and intense student section energy, the game lived up to its Matchup of the Week hype.

Will Jenson led the charge for the Wolfpack with a dominant 33-point performance, while Miles Macomber and Jack Bents combined for 24. Summit’s Will Manfredi kept the Storm in it with 23 points, including a clutch step-back three in the final seconds to make it a one-point game.

The Wolfpack controlled much of the second half, Macomber hitting key shots and Jenson showcasing his inside dominance. Summit’s Ryder Grieb and Manfredi kept pushing back, making big plays down the stretch. With five seconds left, Summit had a chance to win or force overtime, but Grieb’s deep three just rimmed out, sealing Caldera’s victory. The Wolfpack remain undefeated in league play, proving why they’re the top team in the state.

In another thrilling Top 10 matchup, Summit traveled to Caldera and came away with a hard-fought 48-42 victory.

The Storm, now 2-1 in league play and ranked seventh in the state, relied on strong defense and key shooting performances to take down an undefeated Caldera team. The game featured standout performances from both sides, with Piper Richwine and Kalyn Christ making crucial plays for Summit, while Ali Heinly, fresh off reaching 1,000 career points, led the charge for the Wolfpack.

The game was physical from the start, with Christ making her presence felt on defense, blocking shots and forcing turnovers. Heinly showed her scoring ability with tough finishes in the lane, while Samantha Chandler knocked down big shots for Caldera.

Summit’s ball movement led to open looks for Lucy Cross and Emerson Williams, helping the Storm find rhythm. Summit held strong and secured the win, solidifying their spot near the top of the IMC standings.
