Triple the talent: Three sets of twins make Three Rivers Middle School girls basketball team one of a kind

SUNRIVER, Ore. (KTVZ) -- At Three Rivers Middle School, the girls' basketball team is more unique than most.

It’s not because of their team logo, colors, or uniforms — it’s because of the players on the court.

Coach Jill Walker has noticed something special about her team over the past few years:

"So I started coaching about three years ago, and last year was my first year coaching at the fifth-grade level. I had two sets of twins, and I thought that was pretty unique. And then this year, when I moved up to the middle school level, we gained a third set."

That’s right—Three Rivers has three sets of twins:

  • Scarlett & Juliet (identical twins)
  • Piper & Parker (identical twins)
  • Lee & Ailyah (fraternal twins)

Playing together makes the experience even more meaningful for the twins: Lee said, "We always can push each other, and we always have someone that we can practice with or play with. We can push each other in all the sports that we do."

Coach Walker loves the dynamic that the twins bring to the game, "The times when they do go on the court, you can totally tell that they're looking to pass to one another. They kind of have a way of communicating with each other. They know who to look for. And so I do feel like their dynamic works really well when they do get to play together."

She also admits that sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference between them!

For the players, it’s all about teamwork and having fun.

"It's just about being a part of a team, having a good time, being competitive. And most of them say they just want to play because their friends are playing," coach Walker said.

The Three Rivers season ended last week, but Coach Walker has big goals for the future:

Her mission for next year is to continue growing girls' basketball at the middle school—perhaps with even more twins joining the team!
