Beyond the Score: Brezlyn Hagemeister
Redmond, Or (KTVZ)- Ridgeview’s Brezlyn Hagemeister dominated the softball field this season. The sophomore sensation led the Ravens all the way to a state championship at Jane Sanders Stadium in Eugene, striking out 11 batters in the title game as Ridgeview shut out Thurston, 9-0.
The Ravens finished the season 27-1, and every single win started the same way: with Hagemeister in the circle.
Ridgeview allowed the fewest runs in the entire state this season, and Hagemeister gave up just three runs across four playoff games. It was pure dominance — and it earned her 5A Pitcher of the Year honors. But Brezlyn’s success wasn’t just natural talent. She’s worked for every bit of it.
When she was just seven years old, she spent most of the year in the hospital after being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. People counted her out, but she didn’t let it stop her. It only pushed her to work harder, train longer, and become the player she is today.
That fight, that drive, is what defines her. And right by her side through it all has been Scout — her service dog and constant companion.
There’s a special energy that Hagemeister brings, to the dugout, to the circle, and to every teammate she’s around. I even tried to take a few pitching lessons from her myself... but let’s just say, she makes it look easier than it is.
And while her pitching made headlines all season, don’t forget her bat. Hagemeister batted second in the lineup and crushed the ball all year long. She and 5A Player of the Year Brooklyn Lick formed one of the most dangerous duos in the state. Lick has graduated, but Hagemeister is still in uniform, and next year, she might be the most feared player in Oregon.
For now, she’s spending the summer competing with the Northwest Bullets and working daily to improve her game.
The goals are big. The dreams are bigger. But first comes her junior season, and a chance to lead Ridgeview to back-to-back state titles.
