Caldera claims first softball state championship

EUGENE, Ore. (KTVZ)--The Caldera Wolfpack are state champions for the first time in program history after defeating Wilsonville 9-4 in the OSAA softball state championship game.

With the victory, Caldera becomes the third different Central Oregon softball program in the last three years to capture a state title, continuing the region's recent dominance on the diamond.

The Wolfpack were powered by a stellar performance from junior ace Brooke Chapin. In the circle, Chapin struck out 15 batters while helping control the game from start to finish. She also contributed offensively, going 2-for-3 at the plate and driving in two runs.

Sophomore Elle Morton delivered one of the biggest offensive performances of the night. Morton finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs, including a home run, helping Caldera build the cushion it needed to secure the championship.

The title marks the first state championship for Caldera softball, and the future remains bright for the Wolfpack. With key contributors such as Chapin and Morton expected to return next season, Caldera will have an opportunity to defend its crown and remain among the state's top contenders.
