FIFA World Cup: USMNT advances to Round of 16

SAN FRANCISCO, Ca. (KTVZ)-- The United States men's national team is moving on to the Round of 16 after a 2-0 victory over Bosnia in the Round of 32 in San Francisco.

After a scoreless beginning of the first half, the U.S. broke through in the 44th minute when Folarin Balogun capitalized on a deflected through ball and slipped a left-footed shot past the goalkeeper to give the Americans a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

The match took a turn in the second half when Balogun was shown a red card following a penalty, forcing the United States to play with 10 men for the remainder of the contest. The red card also means Balogun will miss the Americans' next match against Belgium. Balogun has been a key contributor for the U.S., scoring three goals during the World Cup.

Facing a man disadvantage, the U.S. defense held strong and kept Bosnia off the scoreboard. In the 81st minute, Malik Tillman put the match away with a free kick goal, extending the lead to 2-0.

The victory sends the United States into the Round of 16, where it will face Belgium with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line.
