Bend High girls soccer dominates to begin season

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ)-- Bend High continued its strong start to the season with a 5-0 victory over 6A South Medford in the Lava Bears’ second game of the year.

The Lava Bears struck early when 5A Player of the Year Shea Manfredi delivered a cross into the box, where senior Harper Moffenbeier finished the play to give Bend a 1-0 lead.

South Medford had opportunities to respond, but Bend goalkeeper Brooklyn Mettler kept the Panthers off the scoreboard. The junior came up with a key save to preserve the Lava Bears’ advantage.

Bend continued to apply pressure in the second half. Olivia Lynch found freshman Ryker Scott, who beat both a defender and the goalkeeper to score the first goal of her career. Scott’s goal gave Bend a 2-0 lead in the Lava Bears’ first home game of the season.

The Lava Bears added another goal when Manfredi sent a pass forward to Lynch. Lynch got behind the South Medford defense and finished the opportunity to make it 3-0.

Bend continued to attack, with Cassidy Connor hitting the post on a long-range attempt. Isla Beal followed up on the rebound and found the back of the net, extending the lead to 4-0.

Manfredi then got on the scoresheet herself. After creating several opportunities throughout the game, the reigning 5A Player of the Year finally found the back of the net to make it 5-0.

Bend dominated the second half and finished off a 5-0 win over South Medford.

The victory moves the Lava Bears to 2-0 on the season.
