Summit Storm soccer make statement with sweep of Bend High

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ)-- The Summit Storm made a statement against the Bend High Lava Bears, sweeping both the girls and boys matchups between two undefeated teams.

The Summit girls handed the defending state champions their first loss of the season with a dominant 3-0 shutout. Madilynn “Mad Dog” Millete opened the scoring, while Auna Rowlett added a penalty-kick goal to extend the Storm’s advantage. Jubilee Johnson capped off the victory with a late goal as Summit controlled possession and consistently pressured the Bend High defense.

The Storm’s defense also held strong, with freshman goalkeeper Kate Mitchell making several key saves to preserve the shutout.

The boys matchup was much tighter, but Summit ultimately came away with a 2-1 victory on its home field.

Bend High took an early lead behind a goal from sophomore Cruz Guzman, but Summit answered before halftime when junior Will Newton converted a penalty kick to tie the game.

Newton struck again from the penalty spot in the second half, giving the Storm the lead and eventually the win.

Bend High goalkeeper Bentley Malacon-Deal kept the Lava Bears within striking distance throughout the game, making multiple big saves, including a penalty-kick stop.

With the two victories, Summit swept the undefeated showdown, with the girls winning 3-0 and the boys earning a 2-1 victory.
