Sabalenka returns with win over Tomljanovic at Kremlin Cup

KTVZ

MOSCOW (AP) — Aryna Sabalenka played a match for the first time since reaching the U.S. Open semifinals and won. The 23-year-old Belarusian beat Ajla Tomljanovic 7-6 (2), 4-6, 6-1 to reach the quarterfinals of the Kremlin Cup. The No. 2-ranked Sabalenka had a bye in the first round here and hadn’t played since her three-set loss to Leylah Fernandez at the U.S. Open. She had been scheduled to play in Indian Wells but had to withdraw after saying she’d tested positive for COVID-19. Sabalenka will next play Ekaterina Alexandrova. Garbine Muguruza reached the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win over Tereza Martincova.
