Lack of ice time an issue for some Bend skaters, parents

The parents of some Bend ice skaters say they're upset by Bend Park and Rec's lack of ice time to practice at The Pavilion, outside of "open skate" time that could pose risks to others.

  1. I wonder what the actual number of so called athletes is that are complaining ?
    My guess is that there are an awful lot more people that just go to skate and
    have fun… Maybe the people that are complaining should build their own facility
    then they could do whatever they want 24/7…

    1. Warroad, MN . . . pop. 1,800 has 2 Olympic size heated indoor arenas. Why? Between hockey games, practices, public skate, and figure skating, both rinks are scheduled full until late in the evening. Kids learn how to skate not long after learning to walk and you’ll find Old Geezer’s playing hockey in the “Old Timer’s” league. (Not to mention School PE on the ice as well.)

        1. My kids DID skate there when they were young . . . They’re all fully grown now. And yes, I also skated there when I was young and old. My kids and I also enjoyed skating there during FREE public skate, which was/is whenever no team practice or games were/are scheduled. Just to make you think we were entitled, we also enjoyed free public use of the school indoor pool under the same rules . . . year around.
