Flag Day honored with ceremonies in Bend and Redmond
In recognition of Flag Day, the Bend Heroes Foundation and Mountain View High School's Cadet Corps placed flags at the Bend Heroes Memorial in Brooks Park. In Redmond, a 20-by-30 foot flag was raised by BasX Solutions and the Redmond High School ROTC.
This flag day story would make a good segue that 2 members of the Bend city council refuse to stand for the Pledge at the opening of their meetings.
I’d like to go to ammeeting and use the 1st Amendment on those brats
To me, the spirit of the flag and everything for which it stands is best expressed by freedom-loving dissidents than by cowering sheep who recite the Pledge out of fear of being viewed as a nonconformist if they don’t. Parts of the pledge are great, particularly as originally written by an American socialist scoutmaster in the 19th century. I can get behind “liberty and justice for all,” as an idea, but not mindlessly, mechanically, and involuntarily in an era when such a thing does not exist (did it ever?).
if you have to ask you don’t think the USA was ever great
Certainly we all have the responsibility to ask. And we should have the freedom to ask, as well.
you do hve the Freedom to ask. But you don’t need to ask as you don’t believe in American Exceptionalism or believe that the USA was ever great
