Fantastic Museum: An eccentric adventure in Sisters
SISTERS, Ore. (KTVZ)-- A new museum has opened in downtown Sisters, the Fantastic Museum. This is not your ordinary museum, it's much more than that. Within you may find NBA memorabilia, rodeo history, and even presidential memorabilia. Investigate further and you'll even find a 9ft tall mummy. The museum is owned by Jim Schmidt who has been described as an improbable millionaire. He says the contents of the museum are a collection from his storied life. Admittance to the museum is free but all donations go to benefit the 4-H club in Cloverdale, Oregon.
“4-H was good to me when I was young and had nothing going for me 4-H was a big deal in my life because I got to show my sheep at the fair. But I knew in 4-H you don't have a lot of money and you have your animals. So I told Rick Barry, I said, we have this sports collection. I would like to put a collection in sisters Oregon and help the four H kids,” Schmidt said.
If you're curious, yes, he's talking about the Rick Barry who is one of the highest scorers in NBA history. Long time residents will recognize Jim Schmidt as the operator of the "Fantastic Museum" that opened in Redmond during the late 90's. The museum is open everyday, except Mondays from 11am to 3pm.
