Rain returns Thursday, lingers into the weekend
The dry and sunny pattern is coming to an end as today will be the last day for a while with mostly clear skies. A weak cold will be moving across the region which will change our pattern from mild and dry to cooler and rainy.
Expect a chance for light rain to arrive before noon Thursday and linger off and on through Friday. Â The area will be on the breezy to chilly side once the rain arrives as temps will top out in the middle 50s.Â
There is a slight chance we may hear the rumble of thunder east of Prineville Thursday and Friday, but nothing organized or severe is expected, just isolated storms.
Friday will be a cloudy day with off and on rain showers. Temperature readings in Central Oregon will vary from the upper 40s to the low and middle 50s.
A stray shower will be present on Saturday, but generally a mix of clouds and sunshine will define the day. Still on the cooler than normal side with highs in the middle 50s.
Snow will fall on the crest of the Cascades, but only a couple of inches and only expected above 6000 feet. Most passes will be slick and slightly impacted for travel, but not overwhelming.
Sunday will be breezy, partly cloudy, and milder with a flow of air from the west allowing for a brief warm up.
Next week will be defined by rain showers making it to the Cascades, but having a tough time making it east of the Crest. Rainy and high-level snow continues off and on over the mountains, but the High Desert should remain mostly dry.
