Chilly and breezy weekend, cold overnight

There is a major change in the overall temperature pattern for Central Oregon ahead.  High temperatures are expected to top out in the upper 50s to low 60s through the weekend and into early next week.  A cold pocket of air is entering the region from the north and west, allowing the cold air to dominate for a few days.

The cooler than normal pattern may also provide a few snowflakes on the highest peaks of the Cascades from time to time. The moisture will be present as the cooler pattern takes hold and the mountains will squeeze out some snow.  Don’t expect to see much in the way of accumulating snow, as the ground is warm, but flakes may fall.  Slick roads through the passes will be a concern.

The other factor to consider this weekend is your garden. Lows will be in the low 30s and possibly some upper 20s for a short period of time overnight.  If you have sensitive or budding plants, it may be a good idea to tend to them to keep them from harm.  Frost is possible.

The next interesting feature this weekend will be the slight chance of rain showers. If there is any precipitation that crosses the Cascades, it will be light.  The best chance for rain is not until late Sunday into Monday, but a stray shower is not out of the question this weekend.  Not much precipitation is expected, just noticeable.

Father’s Day will be chilly and cloudy with some brisk winds from time to time. The winds will be below wind advisory levels, but they will be annoying.
