Record heat wave to continue

KTVZ

Triple digit heat expected today and tomorrow with highs on Tuesday peaking into the 105 – 107° range in Bend and Redmond.  Currently an Excessive Heat Warning is in place for portions of Central Oregon including Warm Springs, Madras, Redmond, Prineville, and Bend until Wednesday at 10pm. The hottest day will be Tuesday as we see near 110 degrees in Redmond, over 105 in Bend.

Little relief, but some, overnight as the mercury dips to the 50s and 60s. A cool night breeze will also push out the hot layer of air close to the ground that develops in the heat of the day.

This week will be another hot one, and although the temperatures may not make it to 100 in spots, upper 90s is still very dangerous. We will stay well above our low 80s average high in Central Oregon for the next several days.  Keep on doing what we have been doing, checking on each other, staying hydrated, exercising early or late in the day and keeping in the shade.

Another big issue and concern will be our fire weather behavior. We are under the Fire Weather Warning through the area until Tuesday night at 11 pm.  High heat and low humidity along with a light breeze will be a recipe for explosive fire growth if a fire begins.

Looking into the future, Central Oregon fire danger will be dangerously high this season if we don’t get some rain when we come out of this hot period.

Stay hydrated, stay in the shade, never leave kids or pets in a vehicle, be aware of the high fire risks.  Check on your neighbors from time to time.
