Fire concerns today, normal temperatures return this week

KTVZ

We have been dealing with extreme fire weather dangers and fire behavior due to this extended heat wave that’s lasted for three weeks. Today will be the last day we temperatures above 90 before we break the trend tomorrow. Seasonal temperatures make their long-awaited return on Thursday. We will be in the low and mid 80s tomorrow and stay in the 80s into the weekend. This heat wave has been very hot, very dry, and for a very long time.

We are in the full swing of fire season, with wildfire conditions being similar to what we would see much later in the season but we are seeing it now. Air quality alerts are out until further notice for Crook County and many areas across the entire state. Limit outdoor activities and protect yourself from the smoke if you need to be outside. Breezy conditions are expected today which will move that smoke around and fan those flames. Refer to the red banner at the top of the website for the most recent alerts.

Eastern parts of Oregon will see storms this evening as the upper-level trough approaches. Rain, hail, and lightning are all expected. The lightning in addition to the breezy and hot conditions will be a recipe for fire danger. Winds from the south today will bring in moisture so these storms will have more rain associated with them which could help mitigate some fire danger.

Happy Wednesday and be safe outside today!
