Cooler pattern this week, scattered showers possible late in the week

KTVZ

The heat is taking a break and a cooler than normal pattern is setting up for several days. We have seen the mercury in the thermometer dip below normal this summer, but only for a day or two at a time. This week our temperature profile will be about 3 – 5 degrees cooler than normal.  Highs will be in the upper 70s to low 80s through at least Friday

The chance for some widespread rain is very low, but there is a chance for some passing showers or isolated storms. This is not good news, as the light rain evaporates as if exits the base of the cloud and cools the air below the base. That cool air sinks and generates some brisk winds.  Given our wildfire landscape, the breezy scenario is never good. Some lighting is also in the forecast later this week, so that may also start a new fire.

There is also some cool stuff in the sky overnight, we may get to see a weak Aurora tonight. A G3 magnetic storm has occurred recently and will possibly provide us with some northern lights again tonight.  Some were visible last night, and we may see some more tonight.

We are also going to see the Perseid Meteor Shower tonight, so a double dip of celestial beauty and wonderment is in store for the area tonight.
