Smoky today but cool temps and rain showers tomorrow should bring some clearing

KTVZ

Highs today in the 70s and 80s. Expect mostly sunny skies with increasing clouds into the night. Lows tonight will be in the 40s and 50s.

Central Oregon remains under Air Quality Advisories until further notice. We are currently surrounded by a number of newer fires, many which started over this last weekend. West and northwest wind today will keep areas like Madras and Warm Springs clearer, but areas like Bend and Sunriver will be dealing with unhealthy levels as smoke from the fires burning at Bachelor will move in today.

A low pressure deepens over our region tomorrow which will bring cooler and wetter air. Along with the low, is a cold front at the surface, which will decrease temperatures even more. These combined will provide us with rain showers throughout the day Wednesday.

Showers will begin in the early morning and will taper off overnight. There is a possibility of a lingering shower on Thursday as the systems move through our region. Central Oregon is forecasted to get about a quarter of an inch. There is a chance for some isolated thunderstorms on Wednesday. These spots will see locally heavier rain totals.

This pattern should help to clear out our region from the smoke a little, but the breezier conditions associated with this pattern could make firefighting difficult. We’ll need a good amount of rain to combat the danger.

Temperatures starting tomorrow will drop into the 50s and 60s. Low temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday night will be cold, in the 30s and 40s. Areas in La Pine, Sunriver, and Sisters could see some sub-freezing overnight lows on these nights. Prep your plants!

Happy Tuesday, have a great day.
