A brief taste of winter tonight, mild over the weekend

KTVZ

The rain and snow are tapering off as we move through the night, but the chilly pattern will remain. Tonight the overnight low temperatures are going to bottom out in the teens Sisters, Sunriver, and La Pine as the skies clear and any heat we gained during the day will radiate away.  Lows in the 20s are likely all other locations, so a taste of winter. Winds will be sustained near 10 mph, which at first glance is not all that bad, but with the temps in the teens it may feel more like the single digits at times.

This cold snap is not going to last long as the mercury in the thermometer will be back near 70 over the weekend. A warmer patch of air will move in and allow us to get above normal for the weekend.

Cooler air is slated for Monday, along with some light rain. The rainy day is a byproduct of a weak cold front that is slated to cross Oregon late Sunday into early Monday. Highs Monday and Tuesday will be in the upper 50s.

Slightly warmer on Wednesday and Thursday as we are expecting middle to upper 60s. Late in the forecast period, Friday, there may be a more robust rain event. The rainfall we got from the past 36 hours was nice, helping scour out some of the smoke, but we could use some more since we are still classified as being in a Moderate Drought by the Climate Prediction Center.
